Chemicals – Please, Oh please stop using this word!

Introduction

This blog post is going to be a relatively short one but will be 90% rant, so strap in and get ready, Let us begin. Being in fitness you notice a certain group of people that follow trends. Juice diets, low carb diets and high-fat diets, they follow them all. I have also noticed they say words and phrases, there are many of them, however, one word irritates me more than I can say! What is that word? Chemicals. Now it isn’t so much the word themselves that irritates me, but how people use it. So let us begin the rant and get into it. Get ready!

I Don’t eat anything with Chemicals

This, this phrase people say so much, and it irritates me every time. People will say “I don’t put chemicals in my body” or “I don’t eat anything with chemicals”. Now, before we start, I understand what they are trying to say, but this sentence isn’t the way to say it.

Remember, everything is chemicals, everything! Chemicals make up everything! So if people are going around saying “I don’t eat anything with chemicals”, they aren’t going to eat anything! I mean, water is a chemical….Don’t say the word chemicals, chemicals aren’t just substances found in laboratories, they are everything and are in everything. What they should be saying is additives, when people say chemicals, what they really mean is additives.

Additives are what companies put in foods and drinks to enhance the flavour or change the taste, or texture slightly or additives to make them last longer (shelf life). Should you really be worried about Additives anyway? In a sense no, everything is fine in moderation, as long as your whole diet isn’t consisting of additive filled foods, you should be fine. 

Try to get some whole foods in, stick to your macros and enjoy your diet, That’s the key. You are allowed some “Bad Foods”, hate using that phrase, “bad food”. However, for this example, it will be fine. Now, you are allowed bad food, as long as you are hitting your macros, eating your micros (Vitamins and Minerals) you will be fine to have some naughty things! 

Conclusion

So remember if you want to eat fewer additives that is fine, but please stop saying you aren’t eating chemicals. This will just mean that you aren’t eating anything!
