INTRODUCTION
In the last few years, The Body Coach (Or Joe Wicks) has become almost a household name. He started off posting his body coach recipes onto Instagram and has gone onto writing books, creating workout plans and diets and now doing live stream workouts. We think what he is doing is great, and we aren’t here to knock him or bash him in any way.
However, we have had a few people email us saying “If counting Calories is so important, then why does the body coach recipes work?” This is a valid question that a lot of people ask. So we thought we would take the time to go over why they recipes and plans help people lose weight and get healthier. We will also touch on what the plans don’t do, and how you can change that. So let us get to the meat of the question, why does the body coach recipes work for some people?
WHY DOES IT WORK FOR SOME PEOPLE?
So, the big question is why does it work for some people? Why do some people get amazing results from it? You check his Instagram page and you will see some amazing results. Why does this happen? They aren’t counting their protein, calories or anything. So what is going on?
The biggest reason why the Body Coaches recipes work for some people if that his clients have come from a high caloric intake, or not watching what they eat at all, and start eating less and eating healthier. Which you might have worked out already, Will put them in a calorie deficit. This will lead to weight loss. This is the reason a lot of people find that the body coach recipes will help them lose weight.
The huge advantage that it does have is making cooking fun, His recipes on his Instagram and his cookbooks are fun, easy to cook recipes. This helps get people off the sofa and into the kitchen cooking some amazing homemade food. Which is a tool everyone should have!
Another reason this works is that most people that try Joe Wick’s recipes will also give his workouts a go. This also helps as they are moving more, thus burning more calories. Pair this with the lower-calorie meals and this is a great recipe for weight loss. However, there are a few things “wrong” with following body coach recipes. Let us explain.
WHAT IS IT MISSING?
A few things are missing from the Body Coach Recipes. Personally, I think everyone should track calories or macros for a short period. Why? Well, it makes you accountable for what you eat, what goes in your mouth. You become aware of how many calories are in certain foods and you also become aware of what you can swap out to lower calories. I think this is a must-have skill for anyone who is looking to “diet” not just for a few weeks to maintain a healthy lifestyle their whole life.
On the note of tracking calories, we also want to touch on the fact that not everyone has the same calorie output. So the general “Eat three meals a day” might work for some, and might not work for others. Depending on the Joe Wick’s recipes you decide to try.
There is also no room for adjustment. Eventually, the calories you are eating will become your maintain and you won’t lose any more weight, but because you aren’t tracking calories you won’t be aware of this. You could counter this by upping your output (more exercise and workouts), however, you won’t always be able to just do more exercise.
DO YOU RECOMMEND IT?
Do I recommend it? Well, Yes and no! Let me explain. Why do I recommend it? If you have never followed a “plan” of any sort I think this is a great place to start. It will get you moving, get you cooking and also get you eating healthier. All very important things.
However, I also don’t recommend it for anyone who has serious weight loss or muscle gain goals. As we know the only way to gain or lose weight if with a calorie deficit or surplus. So you will need to track to become aware of how much you are eating. Also, tracking allows you to become very good at adjusting your calories to suit your goal. Losing weight too fast? Up the calories. This you can’t do on Joe Wick’s recipes.
Now, I do believe that he has a full diet and workout plan that you can sign up and pay for. I am under the impression this is a fully customisable plan. One that Is catered specially for you. I might be wrong but it does look that way. If so that is a step up then just buying his recipe books and hoping for the best.
As far as just trying a few Body Coach recipes and seeing what happens is a great starting point. It will help you eat healthier, you might lose a bit of body fat (Depending on your daily caloric needs). However for serious weight goals you will need a more detailed approach.
CONCLUSION
Hopefully, that clears up a few things about why Body Coach Recipes work for some people. As we have mentioned above there are many advantages and disadvantages to Joe wick’s recipes. I do love The Body Coach and the message he projects, he has done very well to promote a very positive message of eating and living healthy. If you want to try them out you are more than welcome, just be aware that they come with their plus and negatives, however, if you are looking to get more into your fitness and diet then you might have to look into counting calories and macros.
