Introduction
This week is another guest post this time. We asked the very talented and knowledgable Colin Campbell if he would like to write another article for us, After his first article he wrote (read his protein myths article here) we thought it would be good to get him back for another one. Colin kindly agreed and put together this article about what do to if you walk into a busy gym? Which if you work 9-5 you will fully understand that feeling. There is some great advice in here so give it a read.
Our Busy Gym Tips!
We all know the challenge of a busy gym at peak time! It’s obvious that gyms are busier at this time of day between 5-7pm, but let’s not complain. It is great to see people trying to better themselves.
Here is four recommendations to ensure that we are still productive and not waiting around for equipment:
1. Have a plan: Know the exercises you are going to perform that day. This means you can swap around your routine depending on what’s available. Ideally start with your compound but you may have to sacrifice on occasion. Having a good workout plan will make it a lot easier to adapt and overcome busy machines and stations.
2. Have alternatives ready if your equipment is taken: If needed swap dumbbell for barbell or cables for dumbbell variations. It is not perfect but be flexible and be open minded.
3. Pipe up and ask to work in: If you find someone is doing the same exercise, then ask to work while they rest. If someone says no, they are a certified D A F T Y. 90% of the time they will say yes, plus you get a free spotter. It is a win, win!
4. Avoid peak times, if possible: everyone knows that 17:30-19:00 is going to be busiest. If you really hate this, then adapt your schedule to avoid a Busy Gym.
Conclusion
Hopefully you can use these tips to still get a full and effective workout in, even if you walk into a Busy Gym. It will at some point happen that you will walk into the gym and it is going to be over crowded. However, using these tips, you are going to be able to deal with it.
